This is a full scale replica of one of the large lotus petals at the Daibutsu base. The petals are incised in hairline engraving with identical designs, which depict the "Lotus Matrix World-System". Each petal is divided into two parts. The upper half depicts a seated Tathagata in the center who is expounding the Dharma and flanked on each side by a group of 11 Bodhisattvas, both groups arranged symmetrically. In the lower half there are 26 horizontal lines with small Buddha images and palaces.
