The modern district of La Défense, located north west to the center, a couple of km straight in the opposite direction of Champs Élysées. Named after the statue La Défense de Paris, built in 1883 to commemorate the soldiers who had defended Paris during the Franco-Prussian War, the area is the main business district in the city.
It is the west end of the Axe Historique.
