The Otsunegoten was built in 1590 and was used as the Emperor's residence until the capital was transferred to Tokyo in 1869. You cannot really see it from here, but it is the largest structure in the Palace grounds with 15 rooms.
18.Shishinden.Michodai.seat * This is the Michodai seat inside the Shishinden, that is the August Seat of the Empress. It was build in 1913, its color and shape are the same as the throne, but it is a bit smaller and simpler. The Imperial throne Takamikura is always placed in the center of the main hall, and Michodai on the right of it. * 2632 x 1682 * (987KB)

25.Kogosho * This is the the Kogosho building, used as a ceremonial hall for celebrating the Coming-of-Age of the Crown Prince as well as on those occasions when the Emperor received the Shogun (military ruler of feudal Japan) and Daimyo (feudal lords).
