This is the the Kogosho building, used as a ceremonial hall for celebrating the Coming-of-Age of the Crown Prince as well as on those occasions when the Emperor received the Shogun (military ruler of feudal Japan) and Daimyo (feudal lords). The present building was reconstructed in 1958.
